A thought came to me
What if the reason so many dire wolf fossils are found in the Lebrea tar pits, more than any other species, but are so rare otherwise is because they pushed the bodies of their dead into them.
Elephants drag the bones of their dead gathering them in one spot. So not unheard-of.
